CELLPHONE VIBRATIONS
There’s something so cool about the vibrate function of cellphones.
When I was a kid, I used to hold my headphones against the side panel of my wooden desk; the miracle of sympathetic vibrations turned the desk into one huge speaker for whatever was spinning on my discman.
In this modern age of technology, where everyone carries cellphones, our solution to the rude ringing-at-an-inappropriate-time problem has been the vibrate function. But what happens when you get home and take your cellphone out of your pocket? I used to always turn the ringer on as soon as I got home, so I’d hear the phone ring if someone called.
But you know what? Screw the ringer, vibrate is much cooler. Forget to switch a couple times and you realize that even when the phone is on vibrate and sitting on your desk, YOU STILL HEAR IT! Again, the wonders of sympathetic vibration. Sure, you can kind of hear a phone vibrate when it’s just in someone’s pocket or purse, but that’s far from a sure thing. Drop it on your desk, on the other hand, and the entire desk becomes a sympathetic speaker.
This gets me every time. So damned cool.
