GET YOUR DRONE ON
Download here (38mb).
When I was studying South Indian classical music in college, one of my TAs distributed a recording of an Indian drone to use for practicing vocal exercises.
That drone became useful in many ways.
The sruti box (see wikipedia entry here) is used in Indian music to create a background drone, over which written and improvised music is performed. In college, I found it was much more useful when writing papers; I’d crank it in my room to drown out my housemates.
AQ recently asked me about this, and I realized everyone could use a little drone in their lives. So hit the download link, set your player to repeat, and drown out the secretary in the cubicle next to yours who repeatedly says “Corporate Accounts Payable, Nina speaking, how may I help you?…One moment please.” (Bonus points if you catch the reference!)
